Gilas Pilipinas Falls To Import-laden Cambodia
Gilas Pilipinas notched their first loss to Cambodia 79 - 68 at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Cambodia, reinforced by six naturalized players, showed their might with their athleticism and scoring right from the get-go. The win puts the host country on top with a 2 - 0 record.
One of the six imports of Cambodia, Darrin Dorsey, dropped 22 points while Sayeed Pridgett added 17 points and 7 boards for the host team.
Gilas Pilipinas had difficulty scoring the entire game. The sweltering heat inside the venue made things worse for most of the team, including naturalized player Justin Brownlee. He had to play limited minutes due to cramps and dehydration.
Christian Standhardinger scored 14 points and 11 rebounds for Gilas while Chris Newsome contributed with 11 points.
The Philippines now log a 1 - 1 record in the tournament. Albeit the loss, the Filipinos are looking to make it to the semifinals with a win over Singapore on Saturday, May 13.
