Gilas Women Beats Thailand For Shot At SEA Games Silver
It wasn't easy but Gilas Pilipinas Women managed to get the job done as they held-off Thailand with a 82 - 70 dub at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
After getting a slim but steady 46 - 38 lead at halftime, things weren't exactly going the Philippines' way early in the third period. The Thais got on a scoring run to keep the game close to a single point deficit but didn't last long however.
The Filipinas shook off the cobwebs and extended their lead back in double figures. Thailand once again came back to close in on Gilas Women then Afril Bernardino happened.
Bernardino took over the game and fired 18 points helping the Gilas Women pull away from Thailand for good. She also had 5 rebounds, 4 dimes, 2 steals and a block.
Khate Castillo got 11 points while Jack Animam and Janine Pontejos contributed with 10 each for the Philippines.
In a losing effort, Rattiyakorn Udomsuk finished with 22 points for Thailand.
With Indonesia inevitably capturing the gold, the Filipinas look to finish the tournament on a high note as they aim for silver on their final game against Malaysia on May 15.
