Gilas Women Bounces Back, Gets First Dub Against Iran

Gilas Pilipinas Women rebounded from their recent loss to Chinese Taipei - A and got their first win on Sunday versus Iran, 64 - 60, at the 42nd William Jones Cup in Taipei, Taiwan.

A scoring run in the third quarter was the key for the Filipinas which ultimately led to their first victory in the tournament.

Kacey Dela Rosa led Gilas Women with 12 points, 8 rebounds, one steal, and one block while Jhazmin Joson also had 12 points and two rebounds.

Center Jack Animam contributed seven points, grabbed 15 boards, dropped four dimes, three blocks, and two steals. Andrea Tongco and Gabi Bade both added seven points as well.

In a losing effort, top scorer Negin Rasoulipour Khameneh finished with 18 points, four rebounds, one assist, and one steal, for Iran. Teammate Nahideh Asadi Aghdash also had 11 points and four rebounds.

Gilas Pilipinas Women will play Chinese Taipei - B next on August 7, Monday.
