Road To Redemption: Gilas Gets Easy Win Over Malaysia
Gilas Pilipinas got off to a good start as they single-handedly beat Malaysia 94 - 49 at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia on Tuesday. The win was a warm up of sorts before facing host country Cambodia on May 11.
From the get-go, Gilas managed to get a steady 32 - 12 lead in the first quarter. The scoring onslaught was just too much to handle for Malaysia.
Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser lead Gilas with 15 points, Justin Brownlee chalked up 11, sans playing limited minutes in the game. Arvin Tolentino joined the scoring party with 10 points while DLSU Green Archer Michael Phillips brought the house down with his highlight dunks, added 9 points, 15 boards and dropped 5 dimes.
Not to be outdone, Jerom Lastimosa showed why he got the nod in the 12-man roster as he contributed 8 points, 3 rebounds and a couple of assists for Gilas.
Meanwhile, forward Calvin Oftana suffered an injury early in the game and did not return in the second half.
Gilas Pilipinas look to get another W – possibly without Oftana – against import-laden Cambodia on Thursday, as their redemption tour continues.
